This is the only picture showing any of the preparations. By the time we left the next morning, the bed was full of spare parts, tools, fluids, clothes and food. We planned for multiple oil changes during the trip (a Model A has no oil filter and requires fairly frequent oil changes). My wife bought plenty of food - we didn't want to have to look for food (which means leaving the mountain road or parkway and often travelling some pretty hilly roads for a while to find any stores or restaurants) while up on Skyline Drive and the Parkways.

Crossing the Commodore Barry Bridge into PA. The route went through Chester PA, Newark DE and northern Maryland.

Near Harpers Ferry - a favorite spot to drive through.

Stopped at Sherando park near Stephens City, VA for a picnic lunch - not as many miles to do the first day. It was a shakedown day.

One casualty was the recently installed speedo drive gear. We had wanted an accurate odometer because we were trying to do the trip as was done in the old days (without GPS) using directions like: go so many miles and turn right, etc. When the speedo gear (with housing) arrived, there was a slight drag at one point in the rotation but we thought it would probably be OK and made sure it had lots of grease. It lasted about 100 miles and apparently the shaft seized in the housing. When we called the vendor to get another one they couldn't get it to us for days because of the weekend. We did eventually get it a few days later at the hotel in TN, but it also had some drag even though we asked the vendor to check it before sending it and after having paid extra for "next-day air" shipping. We had replaced the bad gear with one previously on there which was an 18 tooth instead of a 19 tooth so the odometer was 5.5% off (which we kept track of for the mileage log). Even though there were some later problems - this was the only part that failed during the whole trip. Of course it was one of the few reproduction parts.
